Tax breaks for landlords

Landlords who install energy saving measures and devices are to be awarded a tax break of up to £1,500.

By installing loft insulation, draught-proofing measures and cavity wall insulation, landlords can claim a maximum of £1,500 per property against the installation costs, under the Landlords Energy Saving Allowance (LESA) scheme.

The move has been supported by the National Landlords Association (NLA), and is available to landlords of private residential properties. A spokesman for the NLA said of the move:

"As well as contributing to the overall efforts by society to combat climate change, landlords may see an increase in the value of their investment as a result of energy efficiency improvements. We are pleased that the Government has chosen to offer incentives to landlords instead of regulation and would urge landlords to use the tax break or, perhaps, risk losing it in the future."
