Corporate Manslaughter Act could impact on freight firms
The Corporate Manslaughter Act could place increased pressure on businesses in the transport industry and employers who provide company cars.
That's according to a spokesperson for the Forum of Private Business (FPB), who says that businesses must establish clear health and safety policies or face heavy financial penalties.
FPB Policy Representative Matt Goodman said:
"Because of the relatively high instances of road fatalities, business owners in the transport industry - and those who provide company cars - should make sure their employees are fully aware of health and safety best practice."
An FPB member said:
"It's not selective legislation and can impact on anyone who has a business. However, I think that the transport industry will be the first to feel the effects, and also those companies which provide company cars. Firms should be proactive, re-visit their existing health and safety procedures, and implement new ones, as necessary."
