Retailers must pay more to sustain beef supplies
Beef suppliers are continuing to warn retailers that beef retail prices will have to increase to ensure demand can be met.
According to the Scotsman, farmers receive around 15% more for finished cattle than 12 months ago but campaigners and industry leaders say that this is still not enough to maintain levels of beef production to match demand.
It is reported that supermarkets currently make virtually no profit from selling beef.
