Mothers' Day worth £1.6 billion
Mothering Sunday was estimated to be worth around £1.6 billion to UK retailers this year, according to reports.
The figure is up 6% on 2007 estimates. People spent around £230 million on flowers, making them the most popular gift this year.
The celebration comes during a busy period for greetings card and gift suppliers and manufacturers, according to the Retail Bulletin. Mothering Sunday this year fell just two weeks after Valentines Day and three weeks before Easter.
