Charity Commission cracks down on charities failing to return accounts

The Charity Commission has announced it is to introduce new measures that will ensure the removal of charities from the Register of Charities if they fail to return their accounts and returns on time.

The Commission says that if a charity fails to send in the necessary documents on time, the charity will be notified that it is in default. If after another four months it has still not submitted the documents it will be removed from the Register.

The Commission has reported that, in the last year, 25% of charities on the Register filed their accounts and returns late.
