Worry for London lorries not complying with Low Emission Zone scheme
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has raised concerns that lorries operating in and around London may not be compliant with the Transport for London Low Emission Scheme.
It fears as many as 10,000 vehicles may have to pay charges of up to £200 a day or a fine of £1,000.
The scheme is initially for vehicles over 12 tonnes in weight, which must meet emission standards to operate freely within the M25 border. It is also being rolled out to vehicles weighing between 3.5 and 12 tonnes but these vehicles have until 8 July to ensure they comply.
The FTA says that some vehicle operators may still not be aware of the scheme.
