Government under pressure to sign agency workers' directive
MPs are increasing pressure on the Government to sign the EU Temporary Agency Workers Directive, it's been claimed.
Over 100 MPs have signed an Early Day Motion to convince the Prime Minister to sign the directive. If signed, the directive gives people working via agencies employment rights from the sixth week of work.
However, trade bodies have warned that agency workers are normally drafted in to cope with changing skills demands and awarding workers such rights could damage the way freelancers work, as reported by Freelance UK.
