Scots plan big Christmas spend

Scottish Christmas shoppers are still planning to push the boat out this festive season, despite wider concerns about the economy.

They're expecting to spend around £750 each on Christmas gifts, food and drink, according to a survey by The Scotsman.

However, 80% admitted they wouldn't be spending more than last year but would fork out the same or less.

Almost half said they planned to do most of their shopping online.

People in central Scotland planned to spend the most on gifts, those in Edinburgh and Lothian said they would spend most on drink while people in the Borders plan to spend most on food.
