Scottish alcohol licence fees to increase

Scottish convenience stores are facing a rise in the amount they pay for licences to sell alcohol of up to 667%.

Changes to Scottish legislation mean that local licensing boards can set fees at a level that allows them to recoup the cost of running the licensing system.

The fees have been capped, based on the rateable value of the premises applying for the licence.

Businesses will also have to pay a one-off fee of up to £800 when applying for an alcohol licence, Talking Retail reported.
