Research by industry body Creative and Cultural Skills has found that the theatre and live performance sectors, which are regarded as some of the UK's most lucrative exports, lack staff such as make-up artists and wardrobe specialists.

The creative sectors in general have too many students and not enough staff, the research claims. Backstage roles are overlooked in favour of roles such as directing and on-stage performing, Freelance UK reported.
