Iain Gray said the board's job would be to "make a difference to the innovation landscape of this country" and that he wanted "innovation to be part of every community and business up and down the country".

Mr Gray, whose previous roles have included a variety of innovative positions in the aerospace industry, said he aimed to bring business thinking and efficiency to his role with the board.
