Smoking ban hits smaller pub sales

The smoking ban and miserable weather has hit pub sales this summer, according to Enterprise Inns.

It has put 96 of its under-performing pubs on the market because it says they are no longer viable since smoking was banned in enclosed places in July.

The chain said the smaller, beer-led pubs had been hit hardest by the ban and were unlikely to survive in the modern world.

Enterprise Inns said many of its licensees had invested heavily in outdoor facilities for smokers but few had seen a return, icBirmingham reported.
