Small firms shun public transport
Cars are essential for business travel because public transport is not up to the job, it's been claimed.
A joint study by the British Chambers of Commerce and the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) Foundation found 86% of businesses think they are being affected by congestion on a local, regional and national level.
The Business Travel: Choice or Necessity report also found we are travelling 20% further for business than we did 13 years ago and the average business traveller spends 11 days a year stuck in congestion.
It also revealed that 94% of smaller businesses use the road to travel, 82% believe the car is central to their business and 70% believe that in its present form, public transport is not fit for purpose.
