Scots are Christmas big spenders

Scottish shoppers will spend the most on Christmas gifts this year, according to a survey by Deloitte.

The business advisory group's Christmas Retail Survey found that people in Scotland will spend an average of £496 each buying presents for their loved ones. Shoppers in the West Midlands are expected to spend the least - £307.

Consumers north of the border are expected to spend the most overall celebrating the festive season - £848 - while the West Midlands was again bottom of the league when going out and Christmas food spending was taken into account. They plan to part with an average of £571 over the Christmas period as a whole.
