New age discrimination warning
Employers should be careful when demanding fixed amounts of work experience in recruitment adverts, in case they fall foul of employment legislation.
The warning comes from employment lawyers Pinsent Masons, after a secretary won a case against a business for dismissing her for being too young.
Asking for a fixed number of years of experience could be seen as discriminatory unless an employer can justify why this is necessary, Out-Law.com reported.
Businesses should be aware that the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 apply to the young as well as older people.
