Consultation launched on Services Directive
The Government has launched a consultation on the Services Directive, which calls on European Union (EU)governments to cut red tape and provide practical help for service providers to expand into other EU countries.
It is thought the UK will be one of the biggest beneficiaries from the new regulations, because it already has a strong services sector.
Gareth Thomas, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Trade and Consumer Affairs, said:
"Small and medium sized firms that are often hardest hit by the cost and time involved in trying to enter new markets will benefit the most."
The consultation closes on 11 February 2008.
