Warning over sick note season

Businesses are being warned about the forthcoming 'sick note season' and are being urged to avoid it by giving staff more time off as Christmas approaches.

According to a study of almost 500 workers, four out of five admitted throwing a sickie for a variety of reasons.

Hangovers, attending job interviews and legitimate reasons such as doctors' appointments were among the reasons cited in the survey by recruitment website Fish4jobs.

The report says the period from 24 October to 1 November marks the start of sick note season, so-called because it is longest stretch of work without a Bank Holiday, Onrec.com reported.
