VAT registration takes up to 54 days
Businesses in Northern Ireland are waiting up to 54 days to register for VAT.
The Government figures show that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is lagging well behind the target that firms shouldn't have to wait longer than 14 days to become VAT registered. In April, just 7% of applications met the deadline, while 17% did in June.
HMRC said the increased incidences of fraud meant more checks had to be carried out so the registration process took longer, The Independent reported.
