Pubs warned on food prices
Pubs should look again at the cost of their meals if they don't want to price themselves out of the market.
So says the Good Pub Guide 2008, which found that a two course pub meal with a glass of wine costs an average of £20 per head.
It claimed that £40 for a meal for two at a pub would be "quite a deterrent" to customers. The guide said since the smoking ban, pubs have been increasingly relying on food sales.
But it said that unless prices are kept in check, pubs can't expect to attract new diners, let alone keep their current ones, Ananova reported.
