Fresh talks to avert more postal strikes

There are renewed pleas for the the Communications Workers' Union (CWU) to settle its dispute with Royal Mail and get the post back to normal, as talks to settle the long-running dispute over pay and modernisation continued today (Friday).

If the situation is not resolved, the union is due to start another series of rolling strikes on Monday, and wildcat action is continuing in some parts of the country over shift changes.

The Government has said it will not intervene, the BBC reported.

But the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said the union should get its members back to work.

A spokeswoman said:

"The CWU need to recognise the damage it is causing the economy and get its members back to their jobs."
