Food prices continue rising
Food price inflation has filtered through to the high street, pushing up prices, according to the latest monthly figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
The BRC-Neilson Shop Price Index (SPI) for September shows a 0.4% increase in prices compared to a year ago.
Food price inflation rose to 2.7% compared with 2.1% in August. The BRC says food is the sole cause of inflationary pressure from the high street.
There was price deflation among non-food items, a trend the BRC expects to continue for the long term.
