Firms warned over online ageism
Businesses have been warned they may be breaking age discrimination legislation if they only use online application forms to hire staff.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that 55% of people aged 50 and over had not used a computer in the previous three months.
Although firms may try to cut costs by using standardised online forms, they need to remain aware of those who do not use computers, People Management reported.
Lawyers Wedlake Bell said firms must ensure they post application forms as well as direct candidates to their websites.
