Firms turn their backs on Royal Mail

The postal strike has soured small firms' relationship with Royal Mail, with more than half of those quizzed for a survey saying they are now more likely to try alternative private mail deliverers.

The British Chambers of Commerce's (BCC) snap poll found 55% of businesses would look for different postal services, even after the current dispute is resolved.

It also found 88% had seen a significant impact on their business because of the strike and 62% had been sending and settling invoices by other means when the post was not getting through.

A BCC spokesman said:

"It will not be easy for Royal Mail to regain their confidence. The only way it will win back lost business is through pushing ahead with modernisation, providing the efficient, value for money and reliable service that firms demand."
