Firms left alone to cope with employment red tape

The majority of small businesses are being left to cope with increasing levels of employment law without receiving any guidance on compliance.

That's according to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), which found 78% of small business owners and entrepreneurs have to deal with employment paperwork themselves, while a third don't know where to find advice on legislation affecting them. Almost as many said they had avoided taking on new staff due to the complexity of employment law.

An FSB spokesman said:

"The relentless, one-size-fits-all approach to employment law has got to stop. All the evidence shows that small businesses can create more wealth and more jobs when employment laws are simple and flexible."
