Contactless card systems spreading

The use of contactless plastic payment cards is spreading.

We reported earlier this year on the introduction of a similar scheme in London, using the same technology as the capital's Oyster card, which is used to pay for public transport.

Now a similar scheme is to be trialled in pubs and restaurants for bills under £10. The Zonal Retail Data Systems card will not require a PIN number for small payments.

Contactless cards are expected to be widespread within the next five years, The Scotsman reported.
