Congestion costs business dear

The UK has six of the slowest cities in Europe, which is costing businesses billions of pounds a year.

The British Chambers of Commerce was reacting to a gridlock report by Keepmoving.co.uk, which found London was the most congested city in Europe.

The BCC said it had long stated that the UK's transport infrastructure was not fit for purpose and that this report had reiterated the point.

A spokesman said:

"Congestion is rising year on year and currently costs British business £18 billion per year.

"The Government's indecision over its intentions to implement a road pricing policy highlights the lack of an effective policy to improve Britain's roads. Unless we see the Government take bold decisions we can only expect things to get worse."
