Warning over tax scam
Taxpayers who use self-assessment are being warned to beware of a scam to steal their financial details.
Fraudsters are sending out letters and e-mails claiming to be from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) ahead of the 30 September deadline for having their tax calculated.
The con artists even have people on standby to answer the phones listed on their fraudulent correspondence, which claim the recipient either has outstanding tax to pay or is owed money by HMRC. In both cases, it requests card details, FreelanceUK reported.
