Businesses warned over data changes

Firms face being fined if they fail to ready themselves for forthcoming changes to the Data Protection Act.

From 24 October this year, businesses must be able to retrieve any information held about individuals within 40 days of a request being made.

Previously, this applied only to data held on computers or networks, but from next month, it will also apply to information on non-electronic formats, such as paper.

Businesses are being urged to look at the way they store client data, Freelance UK reported.
