Organic food sales soar
Sales of organic food are rising at a rate of more than 20% a year.
The Soil Association figures for 2006, published to mark the start of Organic Fortnight 2007, show a 22% increase in sales.
The Organic Market Report said overall organic sales hit £2 billion last year, while sales through direct marketing schemes such as organic vegetable boxes rose by 53%.
Consumers living in London, the South East, the South West and Wales are most likely to buy organic food.
The study also found organic farmers are three times as likely to market thier products locally or directly than their non-organic counterparts.
