More postal strikes scheduled
Further postal strikes have been announced by the Communication Workers' Union (CWU), in response to what it called Royal Mail's "draconian and destructive" proposals on pay and business changes.
A 48-hour strike is due to take place on 5 and 6 October, with a further two-day strike on 8 and 9 October. In the week starting 15 October, the union plans a rolling programme of weekly strikes.
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) warned Royal Mail that unless the strikes stopped, more businesses would seek alternative services to deal with their post.
A spokeswoman said:
"Everyone must realise that the strikes have to stop. All this standoff is doing is losing post workers wages while hitting the economy hard."
