Further mail strike action expected

Further disruption to the postal service is expected as members of the Unite union consider whether to vote on strike action over planned changes to their pension schemes.

Unite, which represents 12,000 managers, is meeting with Royal Mail to discuss what it has labelled "the great mail robbery".

It fears Royal Mail will make changes to the pension which will cost scheme members up to £1.5 billion. If Royal Mail does announce the expected alterations, Unite will ballot members on industrial action.

A spokesman said:

"Failure by Royal Mail to respond positively will leave Unite with no option other than to ballot its members for strike action."
