Food price increases ease
Food price inflation is continuing to ease, according to new figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
Its monthly BRC-Neilsen Shop Price Index (SPI) reported an overall 0.4% increase in shop prices last month, compared to August 2006.
Food price inflation slowed to 2.1%. This is the fourth consecutive month it has slowed but it remains the only cause of shop price inflation.
Non-food items are continuing to decrease in price, falling by 0.4% in August, the same rate as they did in July.
