Fashion designer supports start up campaign

A £16.2 million programme to encourage business start ups in the North East has won the backing of entrepreneur Wayne Hemingway.

The fashion designer behind the Red or Dead label has filmed a DVD encouraging enterprises to start, grow and locate on South Tyneside as part of the South Tyneside Means Business campaign.

The project aims to encourage people to use local sources of business support, including a telephone helpline, website and three Business Matters outlets.

Mr Hemingway said:

"You have to adjust your life and make sacrifices but it is vital we get people starting businesses and believing in what they do.

"We need to find the next Marks & Spencer and the next Richard Branson and I strongly believe they are out there."
