Crackdown on poor payers

Employers who do not pay the full National Minimum Wage (NMW) to workers are facing a fresh crackdown from the Government.

Business and Enterprise Secretary John Hutton, speaking at this week's Trades' Union Congress (TUC) conference, said there would be higher fines for those not paying the NMW to staff.

He also announced the number of NMW inspectors would double and they would have greater powers to find evidence.

It follows a recent consultation into the NMW, which closed in August.
