The first machine, which will issue euros and dollars as well as pounds, has been opened by the Halifax bank at its branch in Old Broad Street in London.

The scheme will be rolled out across the country in the coming months.

Non-Halifax customers with Visa and MasterCard cards will also be able to use the machines, which do not charge commission.
