Sugar turns employers sour
An increase in employment tribunal cases in Scotland is being blamed on Sir Alan Sugar's brusque style of management.
While the famous phrase 'You're fired' may work for reality TV, it doesn't work in the real world as The Scotsman reports.
Employment lawyers say that copycat bosses who emulate this style have not been following the correct procedures when dismissing staff, and this has resulted in an increase in claims for unfair dismissal.
A spokesman for solicitor firm Muir Myles Laverty said that employment law required certain procedures to be followed and that employers should not copy Sir Alan.
Employment tribunal cases in Scotland have increased by a quarter since 2004.
