Postal strike suspended for talks
The planned 24-hour postal strike due to start last night has been suspended for talks between the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) and the Royal Mail.
The two sides have issued a joint statement that they have committed to talks hosted by the Trades' Union Congress (TUC) and to reach an agreement by 4 September.
The CWU will suspend industrial action for that period and Royal Mail will "not serve notice or take any unilateral action to impose changes by executive action".
