London sales on the up

Retail sales in central London are continuing to rise, according to the latest monthly figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

Its London Retail Sales Monitor (RSM) reported an 11.6% increase compared to a year ago, as overseas visitors boosted retail sales in the capital.

The traditional summer arrival of shoppers from the Middle East increased the figures, even though footfall was down on last year.

The wet weather affected sales of summer clothing and shoes, as well as food.
