Firm sales growth sustained, says report
The underlying growth in UK retail sales remains firm, according to new figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The report found sales volume growth in the three months to July rose by 1.1% compared to the previous quarter, while total sales volume in the period was 4% higher than 12 months earlier.
Non-food sales volumes increased by 2.1%, with non-specialist retailers such as department stores seeing the biggest increase at 5%.
Food sales, however, dropped by 0.4%.
