Big rise in business fraud
There has been a major leap in fraud involving businesses.
It rose by 42% in the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2006, to reach £538 million.
The figures come from the Fraudtrack report by BDO Stoy Hayward, which said the punishments were light for the criminals involved.
VAT-related frauds, such as carousel fraud, were the main growth areas, the BBC reported.
