Strong growth for newer broadband suppliers

Newer broadband companies are starting to catch up with traditional suppliers like BT and Virgin Media.

BT remains the UK's biggest broadband supplier, with 3.8 million customers, a rise of 175,000 in the last three months.

However, Carphone Warehouse, which owns TalkTalk and AOL UK, has 2.4 million and BSkyB has 716,000, despite launching less than a year ago, This Is Money reported.

Carphone Warehouse said it expected even higher growth because of its free laptop offer.
