More malware found on websites
There has been a further increase in the number of computer security threats found on webpages, according to Sophos' analysis of malware threats during June.
The security software firm said that it uncovered an average of 29,700 new infected webpages each day last month.
Around eight out of ten were legitimate webpages which had been hacked. Sophos said too many webpages were providing "easy pickings" for cyber criminals because they were not as secure as they should be.
A Sophos spokeswoman said:
"Malicious code dumped on these websites is just waiting to pounce on innocent surfers. Websites should be as secure as Fort Knox, but at the moment, too many webpages are easy pickings for cybercriminals."
