Floods set to increase food prices

Food prices are predicted to rise because the poor weather is expected to lead to a shortage in supply.

Some of the areas worst affected by the recent floods are the key vegetable-growing areas of north Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. Around 40% of the peacrop grown to then be frozen has been wrecked by the weather.

The floods mean many crops such as wheat and barley are being left to rot in the field because they cannot be reached to harvest, The Guardian reported.
