Businesses advised to protect IP
Small firms and university spin-out companies are being urged to patent their new technology at the same time as they register their businesses.
The warning comes from an intellectual property (IP) lawyer, who says it's vital that entrepreneurs protect their IP. Although it can cost £10,000 to do so, firms are being advised to see it as a form of insurance for the future.
It can take up to three years to obtain a patent but being able to say a patent pending can help to reassure venture capitalists looking to invest in an idea, The Scotsman reported.
