The extra virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil is produced at Hill Farm near Halesworth, Suffolk. Demand in the last year has grown from 330 litres a week to 1,000, and the contract with Tesco is expected to boost that by a further 30%.

A Tesco spokesman said that rapeseed oil was growing in popularity as shoppers realised its health benefits and started to subtitute it for olive and vegetable oil, the Eastern Daily Press reported.

The oil has the lowest saturated fat levels of any edible oil.
