Stores urged to remain vigilant
Corner, convenience shop and off-licence owners are being reminded to be vigilant when selling alcohol over the summer, as the police are in the midst of a major test purchasing operation.
The 10-week operation started in May in England and Wales, and targeted shops will receive up to five test purchase visits during the period.
Those selling alcohol to under-18s face a number of penalties, starting with a £80 Fixed Penalty Notice and leading to prosecution and the ultimate loss of their liquor licences, the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) said.
