Alcohol prices to be scrutinised
Supermarkets' alcohol pricing and promotion strategies are to be considered as part of the Government's National Alcohol Strategy, which aims to cut down on alcohol-fuelled problems.
The announcement was welcomed by John Grogan MP, the chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, who has been campaigning against supermarkets using discounted alcohol as a loss leader.
He tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM), drafted by The Publican, calling for supermarkets to stop using alcohol as a loss leader. The EDM was supported by almost 200 MPs.
