Travel insurance regulation to change

The Government has announced plans to allow the Financial Service Authority (FSA) to be responsible for regulating the selling of travel insurance that is sold alongside holidays.

At the moment, the FSA only regulates travel insurance sold on a stand-alone basis.

The new rules will come into effect from January 2009 following a consultation with the industry.

The Treasury says the change is necessary because of the knowledge gap in consumers' understanding of travel insurance.
