Haulage firms concerned for the future

The haulage industry in Yorkshire and the Humber is under threat because of red tape and stiff competition from European businesses, according to a new report.

The study was carried out by chartered accountants Garbutt & Elliott. It found many of the region's 60 haulage firms are worried about their future prospects.

One of the major problems highlighted was the differing levels of fuel duty paid in different European countries.

Smaller operators considered the best opportunities for the future were in diversification and developing niches in the market.
