Female business ambassador network hits 1,000 target
A network of 1,000 female entrepreneurs to act as role models for other women looking to start their own businesses has been put together by the Government.
The Women's Enterprise Ambassadors' Network (WEAN) has held its first meeting. Industry Minister Margaret Hodge said she had been "overwhelmed" by the response and that the 1,000 target had been met in just two months.
She said that if the UK had the same rate of female entrepreneurship as the US, there would be 700,000 more businesses in Britain.
Ms Hodge added:
"Encouraging greater levels of entrepreneurship amongst women is a priority. Men are twice as likely as women to set up their own business; we know it is particularly important for women to have somebody in whom they can confide and with whom they can discuss their problems."
